P
lease view the photo gallery for samples of our work, including this vase and pitcher set that is hand-crafted from one large bottle-style gourd. The power animals honored here are the owl and the wolf, and each takes the lead on one of these pieces, which are as yet unvarnished.
The owl is the main character on the vase, waiting calmly on a branch, nearly encircling the gourd, in the deeps of his safe surroundings. (This barred owl was photographed by the artist in a preserve off the Gulf on Mexico.) Under the full moon, distant wolves grace the reverse of the vase in a characteristic pose.
On the pitcher, the wolf now enjoys center stage, as the owl takes flight. Here, the handle represents the owl's branch. It is made from the gourd's own stem and is set with polymer clay. All of the artwork is pyro-engraved and then lightly colored.
Three coats of polyurethane protect all gourd artwork. This vase and pitcher set is for decorative purposes only, perfect for dried or silk arrangements.
Yes, our workshop sprite Maura will soon be moving into a new gourd abode. A few pictures of the construction are posted in the Photo Gallery under projects, with more to come. Note the second floor!
| We're shopping sprite garage sales and antique stores for the county cottage look she wants. If you know of any such resources, add a note to Maura's construction photos. Thanks! | ![]() |
